IDRF donors and supporters from the Washington DC metro area attended the launch of a memoir by our founder and CEO Dr. Vinod Prakash “Service Before Self: A Journey of Conviction, Courage and Commitment”, followed by a dinner party on March 30th, 2024, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA.
“Service Before Self: A Journey of Conviction, Courage and Commitment”, is a compelling immigrant story about the courage to face life’s challenges and the conviction, even in the face of the most devastating circumstances, to continue leading a life of service to society. Dr. Prakash lost his eyesight in 2010 due to medical negligence. Yet, even at the age of 90+, his passion to serve the downtrodden remains strong. His selfless social service over 50 years has given a life of dignity to thousands. In his memoir, he reveals his source of strength – his family values, with a belief in ‘duty’ rather than ‘rights’, and his commitment to ‘seva’ (service) and the welfare of the marginalized through IDRF. This book is as much his story as it is of IDRF.
