Relief Activities for Natural Calamities
Providing relief to victims of disasters such as cyclones and earthquakes is an important component of IDRF’s mission. IDRF also works towards providing relief for victims of man-made calamities such as Kargil war and terrorist attacks, that are heinous crimes being perpetrated against India.
Focus
IDRF’s focus in relief operations is to quickly fund relief efforts, partner with other Indo-American organizations to raise funds for victims and finally plan for sustained Rehabilitation of victims.
Relief Operations
IDRF partners with NGOs that are directly involved in relief work. IDRF provides monetary assistance to NGOs to enable the following:
- Run relief camps
- Provide medical aid
- Feed victims, provide rations
- Provide essentials such as clothing, blankets
- Provide blood donations for the injured
Achievements
IDRF has successfully risen to occasion and provided monetary assistance to various unfortunate disasters in India. Some relief activities in which IDRF provided assistance include (in descending chronological order):
- Gujart earthquake
- Orissa super cyclone
- Kargil war
- Latur earthquake
In responding to the needs of disaster victims, IDRF worked with various Indo-American organizations to raise funds in shortest timeframe. Many times, IDRF funded relief activities from its general pool of funds designated for development projects.
